Volunteer Reading Help (VRH) is a national charity which recruits and trains vounteers from the local community to give individual help to children in primary schools who find reading difficult. Volunteer Reading Help empowers disadvantaged children aged between 6 and 11 to become confident and literate for life. Through the dedicated support of well trained volunteers, we help children become confident and willing readers. We also help to boost their self esteem, improve their communication skills and help them interact with their peers and adults. Their motivation increases, their writing skills benefit and their attendance in class improves.
Why is VRH needed? 1 in 5 adults in the UK can be described as illiterate. What we do works! In our most recent survey, 97% made improvements in their reading ability, 52% improving significantly, 84% had more confidence. For our latest pupil survey results visit our website www.vrh.org.uk
