About Us
U3A stands for ‘University of the
Third Age’ but we are not a real
university. No qualifications are
needed to join and we will not be
awarding any. The members of Banbury
U3A, one of 702 in this country alone,
come from all walks of life and all
levels of skills, knowledge and
experience. Just over half of our 160+
membership lives in Banbury itself;
the rest in surrounding villages. What
we have in common, apart from being
retired or semi-retired, is a desire
to remain mentally active. We do this
by shared learning, creative and
leisure activities. We run our own
affairs and everyone chooses what they
are interested in and what they want
to do. We have 25 special interest
groups from art to table tennis,
Monday meetings (see below),
subsidised computer courses,
newsletters, visits and social
activities. There are links to other
U3A’s in the area through study days.
In 2008, for example, we learnt how to
research family history and were given
a balance view about climate change.
