This plant is called purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) and grows at the damp edges of ponds and ditches. It can be seen in Langford Park in August.
Here is a small skipper butterfly. Its caterpillar feeds on grasses which are plentiful in Langford Park. This photograph was taken in July 2006.
