Islip Village Shop News

"We're trying some new technology to better serve our customers. Just send your list telepathically and Bobby will have them delivered before you get home."

My holiday seems a long time ago now, but a very big thank you to all those who did so much extra in keeping the shop stocked and open. When volunteers are on holiday at the same time, it can become very difficult to man the shop. This is why we are constantly seeking more volunteers. We need a back up, so if you are only able to help occasionally that is fine.

The shop celebrated its 8th Birthday on 14th October. We even ordered presents for it! A new photocopier, which we hope you will find useful, and another pricing gun as the ones in the shop were causing problems and proving unreliable. Some of the volunteers have been helping regularly for all of the 8 years, so a special thank you to them. I remember offering to help for one hour a week!

Thinking ahead I am arranging to have all Christmas deliveries on Tuesday 23rd December, although if you require things earlier, that will not be a problem. As with last year, there will be lists for meat, poultry, fruit and vegetables, bread, smoked fish, milk, cream, deli items, etc... If you would like the lists emailed to you please let me have your address; alternatively you will be able to pick them up at the shop. We hope to have these out in good time.

Christmas stamps will be available from 4th November. With no Post Office service on a Thursday, we will do our best to help you with anything that will go in the Post Office both for this country and overseas. I will let you have the last posting dates as soon as available.

I have already been stocking up (sorry Dominic!), with books, mostly selling at half price. These make excellent presents. No doubt the next thing to arrive will be Christmas Cards. We already have Colin Tuffrey Christmas Cards on sale, in aid of Woodeaton Church Roof Fund.

As many of you know, The Grimsby Fish Van now comes outside the shop every Friday between 2.30 and 3.30. If you are unable to make that time, you can place an order with the shop and collect later for no extra charge. If you require something special, I can phone and order before he comes on a Friday. The shop is stocking some products, such as dressed crabs, potted shrimps, rollmop herrings, sweet cured herrings in a variety of sauces, frozen salmon burgers, fish pie mix and scallops. He will not be coming on Friday 7th November.

As usual, the shop will stay open until 7.00 on Bonfire Night.

Have just heard that our Bags for Life, with Islip Shop on the front, will be arriving around the 14th November. These will be on sale in the shop. Ideal presents for friends and relatives for Christmas

Thank you for your continued support which has made our shop a success. Please put in requests if there are items you would like us to stock as we are here to provide for you. Remember we are on your doorstep, no petrol costs, orders taken for the same or next day and so much local produce available, either in the shop or for delivery at no extra cost. Don’t be afraid to ask!

STOP PRESS
We now have new stock of Rowse's Maple Syrup at a very reasonable price of £3.85 - cheaper than supermarket price!
Also a selection of Prints by Rosie Howlett are now available. Framing can be arranged. Ideal Christmas presents.
