The Village Archive
As part of the Edward the Confessor Millennium Celebrations, various village history projects were inaugurated. Islip Voices, based on oral history interviews with Islip villagers, has been published and is available from the Village Shop (free to residents and former residents but donations welcome).
An interpretation panel for Cross Tree Green, drawn and illustrated by a local cartographer and calligrapher, will be installed in Summer 2008.
Work will now be carried forward by the Village Archive. A group meets regularly once a month and is currently undertaking a house by house survey The aim is to find out more about the history of each house in the village and who has lived there over the years. There are plans to produce further publications (e.g. the Islip Fire Brigade) and organise open days.
We would welcome others to get involved by contributing their memories of Islip in the past, by
sharing documents and artefacts, taking part in the houses survey and the archive group.
For further information contact Shirley Martin (Village Archivist) 01865 375932 or Sarah Hayward 01865 378433.
