Edward the Confessor Millennium
Islip celebrated the millennium of Edward the Confessor throughout 2005.
Highlights included a ceremonial boat burning; visits from Channel 4's Time Team; a lecture by mediaevalist, writer and Monty Python regular Terry Jones; an authetic Anglo- Saxon encampment by the re-enactment society Regia Anglorum, and a half size replica of the Bayeux Tapestry on display in St Nicholas Church.
