About Foxdown Close

Foxdown Close is pleasantly located off Kidlington High Street, adjacent to the Baptist Church. The development comprises of a delightful mix of cottages, single bedroom coach houses 4 and 5 bedroom detached dwellings and a barn conversion. The Close is built around its own " villlage" green which contains a single fully grown Bramley Apple Tree from the orchard upon which the |Close was developed. Foxdown Close is, in effect, a small village within the main Kidlington Village and, despite its discreet location is conveniently linked, by footpath, to the High St and its shops approximately 200 yards away. It is a very cosmopolitant area with residents whose origins are from a broad range of countries.

Foxdown Residents benefit from an active Neighbourhood Watch scheme which is instrumental in the quarterly distribution of the Foxdown Close Newsletter and, together with Watch Bulletins, keeps everyone up to date on what is going on in the Close and of crime trends and patterns in the area. Incidents which may particularly effect the Close are brought to attention. The residents are, in consequence, well informed and follow the principle that " Crime can not live in a community that cares" Residents are there for each other and aware that a 'united front' improves security and promotes well being especially for sole occupants or vulnerable residents. They are also assured by the knowledge that the Neighbourhood Watch is there to back them up.

The Foxdown Close residents, through a locally appointed comittee, host an Annual BBQ on Foxdown Green. Residents set out, in grand style, picnic tables, parasols, and gazebos to house refreshments and music/public address equipment. The residents compete in games of French boules, Aunt Salley, Shuffleboard, and occasionally "Frog" racing! Contestants are not allowed to team up with family members and in consequence they get to know each other much better. The competition can get quite heated as friendly rivalry starts to take hold! There are prizes for the games, a raffle, and a prize for the highest scorer of a pre-circulated Cryptic Quiz. The event extends from 5.30 p.m. until just before midnight. It is of huge advantage that, after a few glasses of wine to accompany the meal, residents have only a few yards to walk, or stagger!, home.

The Close also sports "The Foxdown Ramblers" A seasonal list of 4 to 6 mile walks, one a month, in the Kidlington area and surrounding areas, is published. These take place on Tuesdays and depart The Green at 10 a.m.Residents and their family/friends are invited.

It is through these pleasant social interactions that those in the Close have come to regard themselves as friends first and residents second.

Crime can not live in a community that cares. Foxdown Close is such a community and we are fortunate to live there
