Affordable Housing
|
You are all invited to a public meeting on Affordable Housing in Duns Tew on Thursday 16th February. The Village Hall is closed for refurbishments, so the meeting will take place in the Church. What is Affordable Housing? In many rural villages like Duns Tew, there is a shortage of affordable housing that the average salary/wage earner can afford. House prices in Oxfordshire are generally high, and local families and single people are often forced to move away in order to find homes of their own. In the long run, the social character of a village can change completely as a result. The government’s 'Affordable housing' scheme means housing that is built with a subsidy so that the rent or asking price is lower than prevailing market rents or prices, and that will remain affordable in future, because it is owned by a housing association Why do we need a public meeting about it? One of the things that became apparent
during the Village Plan process was that there was no guidance from the 2001 Village Appraisal on the government’s Affordable Housing scheme. The Village Plan recommends that the Parish Council investigate the issues around Affordable Housing in Duns Tew after they have gone through the conservation appraisal process. Public meeting On Thursday 16th February, James Alcock from ORCC will describe the Affordable Housing scheme and demonstrate how it works in Oxfordshire. The Parish Council will then decide what the next course of action will be. More details on Affordable Housing can be found at the back of the church and at http://www.oxonrcc.org.uk/activities.ph p?smid=18 John Wilshaw (on behalf of the Parish Council)
