Winter Report
|
Life is never dull at the Council! There is always plenty to fill the day (but usually the evening as well). Things that have received a lot of my attention are rural subsidised bus services, the new Post Office in Cropredy, speed signage and planning enforcement issues. Bus services are currently a difficulty for Cropredy / Claydon / Mollington / The Bourtons where the 510 service runs only 3 times per day. Representatives from all the Parishes accompanied me to Banbury Town Hall in November (and later met at my home) to consider bus service options with representatives from OCC. Subsidy funding is clearly important to OCC but it is uncertain that sufficient funds will be available to cover the ideal bus service wants. All of us continue to talk with a view to putting in a planned service requirement request by 5th.January 2009. It is also clear that the earlier expected diversion of the Geoff Amos service GA01/02 is not now going to
happen due to timetable and fares income concerns. The Post Office is expected to re-open based in The Spar Shop in Cropredy from late February. The application has been approved and activity is now centred on the installation and security requirements of Post Office Ltd as well as the training needs of the new staff. I am sure the new service will soon rekindle community interest at Cropredy. When I speak with constituents one of their main concerns is traffic speed. The Police have undertaken some tests and these show that most drivers observe road limits in our areas although there are always the exceptions. OCC have produced with the Police some multicoloured posters which have been circulated to all Parishes by me to determine usage needs and to order as appropriate. Wardington is one parish which has embraced the scheme and you can't go too far before the reminders are visible. We seem to have more than our fair
share of enforcement actions against land owners usually who do not have planning permission or have offended the available permissions. There have been 2 cases recently of interest. The first is at Astell Farmyard in Claydon where the Portaloos business operates but without permission for the change of use from agricultural services. Claydon Parish with myself have been pushing for action to be taken and CDC have now issued the appropriate notices. At Mollington, a piece of land on the Farnborough Road was bought by a traveller family and a planning application made for the siting of 3 permanent caravans. The application was declined but the families proceeded to occupy the site. Through good information from local residents, CDC's enforcement and legal teams moved into action and obtained an injunction for the site to be vacated by the end of March 2009. regards Ken Atack
