ARCh recruits, trains and supports volunteers from the local community and businesses to help primary school children develop a love of books and reading.
Our reading helpers provide one-to-one reading assistance in school, but outside of the classroom. They work with 3 children, twice a week throughout the school year and spend hald an hour with each child each sesion. We provide books and games for the volunteers to use and ongoing training and support.
The children we help make wonderful progress. Here is a summary of our last school pupil survey. 100% of the children improved in attitude to reading, 98% improved their reading performance, 96% displayed improved self- confidence/self-esteem
